Fun Facts about LaCrosse

LaCrosse is ideally located between the tall limestone bluffs and the mighty Mississippi River in the heart of what is known as the “Driftless Region” – an area of western WI and southeastern MN spared the flattening effects of the Ice Age glaciers that covered 2/3 of North America.  With its steep hardwood-studded hills and deep valleys intact, the region’s rugged beauty is unequaled anywhere in the Midwest.  The area has attracted travelers since early mammoth hunters came to the confluence of the 3 rivers (Mississippi, Black and LaCrosse).  According to Native American legend, “big winds will not blow where three bodies of water meet” and LaCrosse has had very few tornadoes in recorded history.  LaCrosse was ranked in the “Top 10 Best Places to Live” by US News & World Report, 2009.  It was also ranked as #13 of the top 25 best green places to live in America by Country Home Magazine, 2007.
